Former Top Gear contributor Richard Hammond has been fined £999 by a court after being caught speeding twice in three weeks while driving his luxury car.
The 56-year-old was in a Porsche when he broke the limit on December 2 last year, and was caught again 20 days later driving a Bentley.
West Mercia Police brought two charges against Hammond, using speed camera footage of him driving in Herefordshire to prove the offences.
The presenter, who participated in Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson and James May between 2002 and 2015, before the trio launched The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, challenged two high-speed lawsuits through his lawyers.
At Telford Crown Court last week he was given seven sentences for his licence. Judge Ann Minton ordered him to pay costs of £1,771, which includes £333 in costs and £666 in costs, £240 in costs and £532 in victim surcharges.
Hammond, nicknamed The Hamster by his TV colleagues, was nearly killed in a 320mph jet crash in 2006 while filming Top Gear, and he and Clarkson received a three-month ban from France in 2013 after they were caught speeding while filming an episode of the show.
Court records show Hammond was caught by a police officer with a handheld camera just before 1pm on December 2 last year.
His Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo was clocked at 68mph in a 50mph limit on the A40 in Pencraig, Herefordshire.
At around 11.45am on December 22, Hammond’s Bentley Continental GT was traveling at 82mph in a 70mph limit on the A50 Rudhall overbridge in Herefordshire.
Police sent speeding tickets to the Grade II*-listed Herefordshire castle Hammond bought in 2012 with a £1m farm near Hereford, but the letters were returned with the “addressee gone”.
They tracked him down to his £2m home near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, where more than 30 cars were reportedly registered.
Police wrote in court documents that Hammond was charged with another charge of impaired driving in August of last year.
Hammond was charged with two counts of speeding and two counts of ignoring police orders and failing to identify the driver.
