‘The situation is hell’: Spain struggles with massive wildfires.

The Madrid region is currently under a red weather alert, with temperatures expected to reach 35C in mountainous areas and 38C in other parts of the country.

In a recent report, the National Government delegation in Madrid said the fire was “active and uncontrolled”.

“Today’s efforts will focus on anticipating the worsening weather forecast and cooling the affected areas,” he added.

About 77,000 hectares (190,000 acres) have been affected by the fire in Spain, said the Minister of Ecological Transition, Sarah Agnes.

The wildfires in the Avila area are the largest in the country’s recent history, she added.

A government representative in Avila, where more than 50,000 hectares of land have burned since the fire started, said the fire had evolved “very well” overnight.

Nicanor Sen, however, said there were “small explosions” that were currently being controlled by emergency services.

Meanwhile, the Valencian government lifted a lockdown order for the city of Valle d’Uxo after a fire on July 25 forced the evacuation of 16,000 people from 20 municipalities.

In neighboring Portugal, firefighters are fighting a large fire on three active fronts in the East Guarda area.
