When Marc Casado boarded the Barcelona mission plane to the East Midlands, his future hung more in the air than the plane after manager Hansi Flick opened the door for him to leave.
According to the Spanish “Mundo Deportivo”, the German coach has told the management of the Catalan club that he is not against listening to the offers presented to the young midfielder, convinced that there is a numerical abundance in this position, even against the background of the injury of Frenkie de Jong, and it is not clear whether he will need surgery or not.
Barcelona rejected the initial offer, which did not justify their financial ambitions, and decided to raise the ceiling of their demands, taking advantage of the madness of the current summer transfer market. The administration has set the 22-year-old Casado’s sale price at €40 million, a deal that would represent a net profit for the club under the rules of financial fair play, as he is a La Masia academy graduate and his sale will not require accounting depreciation.
Casado is well aware of the attention surrounding him, through his famous agent Jorge Mendes, who a few days ago met at the dinner table with president Joan Laporta, sports director Deco and Alejandro Echevarria at the Gestivut agency, on the eve of the presentation of Karim Adeyemi, also one of his clients.
The development comes amid Saudi Arabia’s continued interest in the player at a time when Saudi clubs have shown their willingness to pay huge sums, as was the case with Al Hilal, who recently paid €80 million to sign 24-year-old winger Crescencio Somerville.
Casado played in the second half of Barcelona’s 4-1 friendly win over Europe at Sport City last Friday.
The player is experiencing an obvious decline in participation. After playing 2,447 minutes in the 2024-25 campaign as the tenth most capped player and earning his first Spain call-up, his minutes dropped to just 1,397 minutes in all competitions last season, dropping him to eighteenth place.
