England beat Australia in their Commonwealth Games netball with a much-needed win over Malawi in Glasgow.

Next to Anna Stembridge Crashed 66-47 against Australia In their second group match on Sunday, however, they won 73-38 against Malawi.

England started the match in rapid fire fashion and extended their advantage to 14 points at half time with a 37-23 advantage.

By the end of the third quarter at the Hydro they added 18 goals with Sasha Glasgow adding to the Malawian woes.

England, who started their contest in emphatic fashion thrashing Northern Ireland 84-35London Pulse star Olivia Tichain continued the onslaught in the final quarter with a match-high 24 goals.

“It was important to get back to where we are,” co-captain Amy Carter said.

“After yesterday’s loss, we definitely turned things around today and fixed some of our mistakes.

“Australia are obviously very physical, and so is Malawi, so it was good to match that and stand up to that challenge.

“We definitely wanted to go out there and be ruthless today. Sometimes it’s hard when you start a quarter well to keep that consistency and turn the screw, but I think we definitely did that.”

Vitality Roses need to beat South Africa in their final group game on Thursday to keep their hopes of reaching the semi-finals and a medal alive.
