Third in turn, she overhauled South Africa’s Erin Gallagher as the noise grew louder to secure a place on the second step of the podium. Australia’s Alex Perkins won the gold.
“Oh, God, I’m starting to get my breath back,” McInnes said. “It was so incredible.
“I am very grateful to the crowd for making it such a special memory for me. I am very grateful to my parents and boyfriend who are in the crowd and I am very happy that I can do it in front of them.
“A silver is crazy to me. Maybe I was thinking ‘bronze could be really cool’ so it’s just amazing.”
