Young players are safe
The Saudi Professional League Association has revisited one of its most controversial decisions in recent times, after it decided to suspend the implementation of Article 13.1 of the competition guidelines regarding the registration of youth players, a move that followed a wave of protests that accompanied the announcement of the new regulation.
The association decided to delay the implementation of the article requiring only Saudi players or only those born in the Kingdom to be included in the supplementary list of youth players, with its application starting from the 2028-2029 season instead of the previously mentioned date.
The association explained that the decision was based on working together with the clubs and giving itself sufficient time to rearrange its contractual plans in line with the policies aimed at developing Saudi Arabian football and improving the competitive environment.

It emphasized in its statement that the change does not represent a retreat from the project’s objectives, but gives clubs a transition period that allows them to adapt to the new regulations, maintaining the stability of the competition and not harming their technical and investment plans.
The association added that the list update mainly aims to organize the player lists and protect the registration mechanism, in addition to supporting the participation of Saudi players and newbies in the first team and age groups, as it is one of the main axes of national talent development.
The league concluded by stressing that the adoption of the new schedule will ensure that the decision is implemented more effectively and achieves a balance between organizational aspects and the demands of the clubs, which will serve the long-term development goals of the Saudi League.
The past few days have seen a state of denial and anger from some clubs in the association before the decision was overturned.
