Wales’ Abi Powlett has been knocked out of the Commonwealth Games heptathlon

Welsh athlete Abi Powlett has withdrawn from the heptathlon event at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old follows Katarina Johnson-Thompson Withdrawal from competition.

Pawlett is recovering from an Achilles injury that forced him to pull out of the World Indoor Championships in March, just weeks after claiming the British 60m hurdles indoor title and personal pentathlon best in February.

He will still compete in the 200m in Glasgow, but the workload of seven events in the heptathlon is much greater.

Powlett is Wales’ only female 200m sprinter while national record holder Hannah Brier was controversially not selected after missing the cut-off date to run the qualifying time.

Later Brier Complaints Wells’ deadline was too early compared to other nations.
