Commonwealth Games 2026: Identical roper twins both win bronze medals for Wales

Identical roper twin gymnasts both made history for the Welsh team by winning the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow within two hours.

Abigail was one spot ahead of sister Emily in third, and then took home a medal of her own with a third-place finish later in the afternoon on the uneven bars.

“I can’t put into words how crazy it is,” Abigail said.

“I went into this final with no expectations, it was my first final at a major tournament and I was happy to finish.

To come away with a bronze medal is crazy.

Emily revealed how she recovered from finishing fourth to take her bronze.

“It was disappointing coming back from the vault, but I’m so proud of Dad,” Emily said.

“It was about doing my own thing on the bar and this result was amazing. I just had to regroup and know that I know what I can do.”

“Going straight from the vault to the bars didn’t take that long. So being resilient helped me a lot and I’m happy with the result.”

Welsh gymnast Jemima Taylor, who entered for Ruby Evans, finished seventh. Australia’s Kate MacDonald won gold while Canada’s Ellie Black took silver.

Wales now have six medals in Glasgow, five bronze and one silver so far.
