The Mersey Beach Tragedy A similar violent storm has caused tragedy.

A mother and daughter who drowned on an Essex beach were swept out to sea by “very strong” waves, a relative has said.

Shaheen Ahmed said six members of his family were paddling along West Mersey Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

41-year-old Shelina Rahman and 15-year-old Samiha He died in the accidentAhmed’s seven-year-old son Musa was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Ahmed said his son, who is from East London, remained on life support at a London hospital.

Three other people were taken by ambulance to another hospital after the accident. Ahmed said the 12 were visiting West Mersey that day.

“This was 20 minutes before we left for home. The whole day, Alhamdulillah (praise be to Him), was great,” Ahmed was quoted as saying by Bangladesh’s Surma News newspaper.
