Nvidia, Microsoft have launched an open AI partnership – no OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic

Nvidia Monday he said is partnering with Microsoft, SpaceX, IBM, and other technology companies to develop and share open source AI defense tools.

The New Open Secure AI Alliance said open source tools are needed to better protect against borderline attacks. The deal comes amid growing debate over whether the world’s most powerful AI models should be open source. Chinese companies have released a wide range of high-powered displays, especially Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3challenging the approach followed by US labs that often maintain closed borders and ownership. Nvidia and its partners argue that protecting AI requires access to both closed and open models, emphasizing that defenders need tools to deal with emerging threats.

The announcement also follows reports that the Trump administration are considered restricting access to China’s top brands and corporate governance – again the director and Nvidia – to protect the need for openness in AI. Google and OpenAI signed the letter late, too, though Anthropic didn’t.
