Two people died after a major emergency response on Newquay Beach

A man and a woman have died after getting into trouble in the sea at a popular beach.

The two men were pulled from the water off Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall, around 21:45 BST on Sunday, 15 minutes after HM Coastguard said it had been called.

Both Devon and Cornwall Police pronounced them dead at the scene.

Search and rescue teams from Newquay, Padstow and St Agnes were involved along with Newquay RNLI lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter.
