Australia’s Lucas Herbert followed up an impressive display at last week’s Royal Birkdale Open with a record-setting win at the LIV Golf UK event in Staffordshire.
Herbert, who finished sixth in the final men’s major of the year, took the LIV Trophy with a score of 30 under par at Rochester, four shots behind champion Ryan Fox.
It was the lowest winning score since the circuit was established in 2022 and left the 30-year-old six strokes clear of Tyrell Hatton and nine ahead of Bryson DeChambeau.
Herbert also set the LIV record for most birdies (30) and most combined birdies and eagles (32) in a tournament on Sunday after a flawless 62 at 10-under.
He opened the event with an 11-under 61 that included 10 birdies and an eagle, and his worst round all week was a 3-under 69 on Saturday.
Herbert shot an eight-under 62 in the second round of the Open earlier this month and said after the win in Rochester, his second of the LIV season after a victory in Virginia in May: “I just wanted to go at it the best I could this week.
“It was nice to play like that today when two of the best players in the world pushed me.”
Hatton carded a nine-under 63 on Sunday and said: “I wanted to get off to a quick start, which I did, but unfortunately so did Lucas.
“It would have been amazing to win in front of the home fans, but I gave my best. Lucas was incredible this week.”
