England’s Adam Ramsay-Peetty will have the chance to defend his men’s 50m breaststroke title at the Commonwealth Games after qualifying third fastest for the final.
31-year-old, who later broke down in tears Taking bronze in 100m On Saturday night, he finished second in his semifinal with a time of 26.82 seconds.
World record holder Ramsey-Pittee will need to close the gap on South Africa’s Michael Howley – who set the pace with 26.61 – when he runs in the final at 20:07 BST on Monday.
Australia’s 100m breaststroke gold medalist Sam Williamson and Jersey’s silver medalist Phillip Noacchio will also make the final.
“I think I’ve still got a bit more to grow. I think yesterday was a massive lesson,” three-time Olympic gold medalist Ramsay-Peetty told BBC Sport.
“I obviously can’t change anything, so we have to get over it. I also know that I have to move on now and it’s a little bit different than I thought.
“I have to remind myself that I haven’t swum a championship in two years. I have high expectations coming into this Games.
“But as you know, the best athletes in the world, you don’t do it in training, you actually have to compete well and that’s a skill in itself and we have to get used to it.
“I’m enjoying it and tomorrow we’ll see what the result is.”
Ramsay-Pittee’s teammate Max Morgan finished sixth in the same semi-final race and was eliminated.
