When not surfing, he works as an excavator driver in the family construction business.
“I learned how to do everything on one leg, except for wheelies,” Williams says with a wry smile.
“When I turned 18, I went into the kitchen in a wheelchair and said we’re going to Australia.
“One year we were traveling around the coast and living in a camper van.
“It’s great to be able to go back there every year for the competition.”
In March, he won the 2026 Bright Sky Australian Pro Adaptive Surfing Championship as the bullish champion and proudly carried the Welsh flag on the beach at Byron Bay, New South Wales.
And he was third at the North Shore Prosthetics Hawaii Surfing Championship in May.
He finances himself to participate in surfing competitions and is grateful to his supporters close to home.
Williams has been vying with others for the sport to be included in future Paralympic Games.
“Surfing has been a huge part of my recovery and the adaptive surfing community has helped me tremendously,” he said.
“For me, my disability has enriched my life – anything is possible with any kind of disability.”
