Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has said that peace between Tehran and the United States would require Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon.
Khamenei said this on X Sunday.

“Iran has decided to preserve the integrity of Lebanon, and to end the Zionist government’s brutality completely, as the first step to end the war against the brutal US,” he said.
Khamenei also said that he was supporting the Lebanese group Hezbollah, its former leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and the people of southern Lebanon – where Israel is attacking – in several areas.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran sees the protection of the oppressed but powerful mujahideen (Hezbollah) as their duty,” Khamenei said.
Khamenei’s intervention comes amid reports of stopping the attack and renewing the negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Iran has consistently called off Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon as a prerequisite for ending the conflict, which is set out in the first paragraph of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in June. The agreement has been in place since the conflict over the Strait of Hormuz.
Lebanon was involved in the war in March after Hezbollah launched attacks in northern Israel, citing the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war, February 28, and Israel’s almost daily bombardment of Lebanese territory – attacks that allegedly violated the ceasefire that ended the previous violence in 2024.
On June 26, following the signing of the US-Iran agreement, Lebanon and Israel signed an agreement mediated by the US that states that Israel will gradually withdraw from the territory occupied by Lebanon, but without a time limit for withdrawal.
Instead, it said that Israel would withdraw from areas occupied by Hezbollah after disarming them.
Iran and Hezbollah have it refused the contract.
While the first part is the departure of Israel from the three”pilot areas“, the Lebanese army said on Sunday that the Israeli army is hindering the process, including refusing to leave from selected areas.
As of Sunday, Israel was still shelling, shelling and engaging in artillery fire in large areas of occupied southern Lebanon.
At least 4,329 people have been killed, with 37 Israeli soldiers and four Israeli civilians killed in the latest violence in Lebanon.
Israel violated a to prevent war in the past between Hezbollah and Israel more than 10,000 times, according to UN peacekeepers.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the son of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He was appointed as the supreme leader after the assassination of his father by the US and Israel.
Khamenei’s comments in Lebanon come as the war spreads in Yemen, with reports of an exchange of attacks between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
