UK Weather: Dry areas lose chance of rain ahead of next heatwave.

Some dry regions of the UK have missed their chance of rain ahead of another heatwave this week.

Parts of the north and west of the UK saw some rain over the weekend, with more rain and unsettled conditions expected over the next few days.

But the southern parts of the country, where the lowest rainfall has fallen, are set to see drier and sunnier weather in the forecast as temperatures rise again.

Parts of Wales officially enter drought, while parts of southern, central and eastern England remain in “prolonged dry weather”, the last stage before drought is declared.

The coming days will worsen dry conditions as temperatures rise to around 35C (95F) in south-east England.

Ahead of the extreme heat, heat health alerts are issued by the UK Health Protection Agency (UKHSA).

The South-West, South-East, London, East of England, West and East Midlands and Yorkshire and The Humber are all under alerts from 9:00 BST on Tuesday 28 July until 9:00 BST on Friday 31 July.

The UKHSA warns that the heat will have a moderate impact on health and social care services and risk the lives of vulnerable people.
