Luke Leiter defended his World Matchplay Championship in impressive fashion and broke Phil Taylor’s competition and final average records in the process.
The 19-year-old became only the third man to win the matchplay trophy behind seventh seed Gerwyn Price in an 18-9 win at Blackpool.
Taylor, the world number one liter in 2010, scored 106.31 and finished the week with an average of 111.04.
In the final, Taylor averaged 111.53, beating Adrian Lewis’ 111.23 record in 2013.
Littler claimed £225,000 in prize money for winning the event and now has £3,143,500 in the PDC’s two-year legacy. That’s more than Luke Humphries’ £2.13m in second place.
“It’s been a crazy week, one of the best weeks of my life with darts I’ve ever played,” Littler told Sky Sports.
“It was tough, the stats may look easy but when you’re at this level it’s not easy how hard you’ve been hit.”
Price averaged 104.97 in the final and had a successful week, moving up to fourth in the rankings and reclaiming Wales’ number one spot from Jonny Clayton.
