Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal continued their awakening in the summer transfer market after coming close to signing a new deal as part of management’s plan to best prepare the squad ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season, given Italian coach Simone Inzaghi’s desire to build a team that will compete in all competitions.

Al Hilal have bolstered their ranks during the current Mercato, signing Dutchman Crescencio Summerville in addition to the signings of Mohammed Al Sarnukh and Nawaf Al Habashi, before tackling a new technical priority for the coaching staff, the right-back position after Portugal’s Joao Cancelo was close to leaving the team.

According to reports, Al-Hilal have managed to agree a deal to sign Al-Taawan full-back Mohamed Mahrezi to compensate for Cancelo’s departure with the local player, who is considered one of the most popular names in his position in the Roshan league, especially after his high performances in recent seasons.

Al-Hilal were not the only ones keen on acquiring Mahrezi’s services, with Al-Qadissia having been in serious talks with the player of late, before Al-Za’em managed to tip the scales and seal the deal, confirming he will continue to move strongly within the Mercato to settle his targets ahead of his rivals.

Inzaghi believes that strengthening the right-back position is a necessary step to implement his tactical ideas, which rely heavily on the side’s activity, whether in build-up play or attacking support, which has led the administration to quickly complete the job before the start of the season.

By completing the Mahrezi deal, Al Hilal will fulfill Inzaghi’s new request, while the focus is now on the rest of the team’s needs as the management still works to sign a foreign winger and a new striker to close the transfer file in an ideal manner and enter next season with a more complete squad.
