Abdul Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese origin, is accused of committing ‘Islamic terrorism’.

German police have shot and killed a man suspected of shooting at a car during Berlin’s Pride parade.

Abdul Ballout, a German citizen with Lebanese roots, was killed on Sunday while attacking police with a firearm, police said. Officials said the protests were all indicative of “Islamic terrorism”.

Ballout was shot dead after a manhunt that lasted nearly 24 hours. He was the main suspect in the attack that took place on Saturday evening when a car drove through a crowd in Berlin. The car killed one person and injured 29.

The shooting took place in the Spandau district of the German capital. Police said Ballout died despite efforts to revive him.

“Around 6:00 p.m. (1600 GMT), the suspect responsible for yesterday’s attacks in Tiergarten was at a garden distribution center in Spandau,” Berlin police wrote on social media.
