Israeli settlers, backed by the army, have been on the offensive in the occupied West Bank, burning at least two mosques and arresting dozens of Palestinians four days after killing four.

What is really going on?
Last Friday, about 30 residents entered Tal, near the illegal Israeli settlement of Havat Gilad, and tried to break down two houses when people confronted them. The settlers opened fire.
The video shows a Palestinian man taking a gun from a stranger and shooting him before the soldiers shoot him. Three more people died and four people were injured.
Following the killing of two Israelis, the army sent additional troops to the Palestinian territories.
After vowing to avenge the killing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army was “ready to do more in terrorist areas”.
“The instructions we gave were to enter the villages, search them, seize weapons and arrest them,” Netanyahu told reporters.
Which mosques were burned?
Abdel Azim Wadi, head of the village council in the village of Qusra in the southeast of Nablus, said the residents of Israel. lit the mosque on Sunday morning, when attackers spray-painted Hebrew words on its walls with messages, including “revenge on the Jews” and the name of one of the Israelis killed near Tal.

“This is the first attack on our village,” he said, adding that the attackers also spray-painted Hebrew graffiti on the walls of the mosque.
A surveillance camera captured the moment Israeli settlers set fire to a Palestinian home in the town of Beit Furik, east of Nablus, in the northern West Bank.
The video, which was posted on social media accounts, shows the residents storming the building and setting fire to part of it.
The settlers then fled after setting fire to the building, while the Palestinian residents managed to control the fire and minimize the damage.
How many home invasion crimes have been reported?
Israel’s military radio reported at least 30 attacks on settlers in the Palestinian territories since Friday.
Overall, such attacks have risen 63 percent in the first half of 2026, Israeli Army Radio said, citing security sources, with at least 660 incidents recorded against 405 in the second half of 2025.
“Over the weekend, an unusual number of 30 cases of national crime were recorded in the districts,” it said.
Since October 2023, at least 1,185 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, including 250 children. At least 87 Palestinians have been killed so far in the region in 2026, including 21 killed by residents.
“Last night there was no sleep for Palestinians across the occupied West Bank.” People are trapped, isolated, unable to call the fire brigade, unable to call for help or protection – not from the Palestinian police and not from the Israeli army that accompanies the settlers,” said Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, from the West Bank.
“They have to stay awake to protect their homes from being burned by the settlers, to protect their loved ones from the violence of the settlers. So for the Palestinians, this is a very difficult situation,” he said.
“They understand that they are all on their own.”
How many Palestinians have been arrested?
The Palestinian Prisoners Association said that those arrested included former Palestinian prisoners.
The arrests took place in the West Bank district of Nablus, where the Israeli army has been carrying out attacks.
Especially in the town of Tal, large-scale raids and interrogations are taking place, according to the monitoring group.
The number of people who have been arrested in the town since Friday has reached about 80, and most of them have been released. About 18 Palestinians, including children, are still in prison.
