Two matches to decide the fate
Young Argentine Franco Mastanto faces a crisis in his Real Madrid career less than a year after joining the Royals, as he has emerged as a strong candidate for a loan move under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho’s new tactical plans, despite the player’s insistence on staying at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, 18-year-old Mastantono’s situation has become more difficult since Mourinho took over, as he has dropped down the priority list to star players Vinicius Junior, Ibrahim Diaz, Arda Guler and Bernardo Silva, with Jan Diomayens putting extra pressure on him.
From promise to disappointment
Just one year ago, Mastantuno was targeted by European giants. He settled the heated rivalry between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in favor of the Spanish club and made a promising start to his career on the right wing under coach Xabi Alonso, before gradually losing his place in the starting line-up, ending up on the sidelines towards the end of the season, which led to him being left out of the Argentina squad.
The credit market is moving
Real’s desire to keep the international on loan until June 2031 has made it clear that the number of clubs interested in securing more playing time for his services has increased, with Argentina’s River Plate, Inter and Rennes topping the list, in addition to the latter two destinations, England’s Fulham and Italy’s Finaore.
Disappointing performance in the last test
To make matters worse, Mastantuno didn’t make the most of his opportunity in the friendly against Alcorcon, where he struggled and looked uncomfortable despite the team’s 1-0 win, and didn’t show the required level even after conceding a penalty, deepening doubts about his ability to compete.
The Argentine has two friendlies left, the first against Leganes next Tuesday and the second against Fiorentina next Saturday, to prove his worth in the absence of rivals, but his future is all but settled and these latest opportunities are unlikely to alter Real’s plans for his loan.
