Errol Spence Jr. will retire after losing his comeback fight

Former welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr has retired from boxing after losing his comeback fight to Tim Czew in Sydney.

American Spence Jr, 36, held the WBA, WBC and IBF belts and was unbeaten in 28 fights before losing. Terence Crawford three years ago.

His first fight saw him on the backfoot against Australian Tszyu, losing on points 118-110, 117-111, 117-111.

“I think yes, for sure,” Spence said when asked if this was the end of the road for his career.

“I keep my faculties intact. My money is good to work for itself. All good, man.

“I’ve got a beautiful family, and I thank God that I left this game with my faculties intact and my family still by my side.”

Tszyu grew in confidence and strength throughout the fight and consistently looked to attack Spain’s chin. He now wants a shot at a title of his own.

“I had sleepless nights thinking, ‘What will I feel when I face such a legend?’ But it was a show, and I understood why he is a great person,” Tszyu said.

“I want to fight for a title. That’s what I’m aiming for. But I’d say beating someone like Errol Spence is the top of the world title.”

Spence won his first title in 2017 when he defeated British fighter Kell Brook at Bramall Lane.
