Arsenal are weighing up a potential deal for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.
There has been no club-to-club contact at this point, but the interest is real. Vinicius Junior is one of Arsenal’s several forward targets, with Julian Alvarez, Ian Diomond And Bradley Barcola Also interested players.
The Brazil international, 26, has entered the final year of his contract and if a deal on a new contract cannot be found, Real could be open to selling him instead of losing him on a free next summer.
The Gunners are aiming to strengthen their left-back options this summer and the Brazil ace would be a superstar addition.
Arsenal sold Leandro Trossard and brought in Besiktas for £17m earlier this summer. Christos Jolis From Club Brugge for £34m. However, their alternative option in that area of the pitch, Gabriel MartinelliScored just one goal in the Premier League last season.
Vinicius Jr., the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up, is currently on vacation following his exploits for Brazil at the World Cup.
Sky Sports’ Peter Smith:
“It’s well known that Arsenal are looking to strengthen their left-back options this summer – but a deal for Brazil star Vinicius Junior would be a stunning addition.
“Vinicius Jr has a year left on his current Real Madrid contract so this could be a window of opportunity for potential suitors to make their move, as Real look to tie the winger down to a new contract.
“The focus is on Vinicius Jr’s relationship with new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
“However, it is understood the player and head coach have been in contact since an incident last season in which Vinicius Jr was abused by Mourinho’s Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestiani and the pair are set to start this new campaign together with a clean slate.
“But with Arsenal’s interest reported, Vinicius Jr. is likely to start the 206/27 season in the Premier League.
“It’s a thrilling thought for Arsenal fans and neutrals on these shores – but a worrying one for the Gunners’ title rivals.”
Spanish football expert Terry Gibson on Sky Sports News:
“Vinicius Junior is currently on €15 million a year
“Real Madrid offered him €20m. He wants €30m – just over €550,000 a week.
“There are no contract changes from Real Madrid or Vinicius. Real Madrid are looking at a possible replacement for Ian Diomande from RB Leipzig. This (contract situation) has been going on for 18 months.
“But when you put those figures in the melting pot, it’s hard to imagine Arsenal or anyone in the Premier League matching that money.”
