In-form Le Betfred moved into the top four in the Super League with a 28-12 win over Warrington.
The Leopards, chasing a fifth straight win, made a quick start at Leigh Sports Village as David Armstrong stretched in the corner and Lachlan Lam then finished a sweeping counter-attack to touch down under the post and put the home side 10-0 up after 15 minutes.
Adam Cook slotted a penalty in the 27th minute after an interception before Wolves responded when Tofofoa Sipley reduced the deficit after half an hour.
Cook pulled over another penalty attempt from the right, but Leigh then added a third try when Innes Sr. was sent into the left corner to take a 16-6 lead into the break.
Leigh saw Josh Charnley sent to the sin bin early in the second half after a high tackle on Toby King. Warrington then yellow carded Leon Hayes in the 51st minute for a dangerous challenge on Wayne Trout.
In the 53rd minute Joe Ofahengo put Barca over for Leigh’s fourth try, Cook kicked the extra and then landed another penalty to make it 24-6.
Umila Hanley cut through the visiting defense on the hour before winger Albert Hoppoet headed in Warrington’s second try with 10 minutes remaining in the right corner.
Leigh, though, looked on late, the senior’s late score in the corner for a forward pass, to continue their push towards the top four. They are now level on 26 points with Warrington, who have played a match less.
Despite making changes during the match due to injuries, Leopards head coach Adrian Lam praised the way his team turned out.
“I thought we were resilient today and hung in there and played really well,” said Lamm, who confirmed Frankie Halton is suffering from a suspected pectoral muscle strain that could rule him out for the rest of the season.
“The first half was great and we put a few tries in there, but I though we were physical and we were ready for it.”
Warrington boss Sam Burgess felt his side deserved more.
“It was one of those games. I thought the scoreline probably didn’t reflect the game or how tight the game was,” Burgess said on Sky Sports.
“In the second half I thought we started with great spirit. We just couldn’t get any points.”

Tuimoala Lolohea starred as bottom of the table Huddersfield ended their 12-game wait for a Super League win with a 24-22 win at York.
The sides canceled each other out in a tight opening at a blustery LNER Community Stadium, although Tom Inman thought he had given the Knights an eighth-minute lead after Cody Hunter’s show and go and delayed pass, but a review showed he grounded the ball short under pressure from George Flanagan.
However, they went ahead within two minutes when Paul McShane’s speculative kick was allowed to bounce into goal and David Nofoaluma pounced to touch down, with John Bennison adding the conversion.
Mathieu Koza gave the Giants a chance to pull one back on 20 minutes when he chipped the ball over the line, but winger Lewis Jagger’s neat footwork and power saw him reduce the deficit on six minutes which Flanagan put away with the conversion.
Flanagan saw a 34th-minute try that Nickau Williams closed out for Connor Wrench to intercept in the build-up and the half ended 6-6.
The visitors went in front seven minutes into the second half when Lolohea chased his own kick forward and got a touch as he and defender Toa Matafa dived, Flanagan’s kick making it 12-6.
York got back into it when Scott Galliano forced his way into the corner for an unconverted effort, but Lolohea wrenched in and Flanagan added two points to give Huddersfield breathing space.
They extended their lead to 24-10 when Flanagan converted a sniping Jack Woolford score, but Jordan Thompson and Inman both quickly crossed, Bennison bringing the home side within two points as the dramatic contest came to a close.
The Catalans held on to win the derby in Toulouse
Tommy Makinson scored two tries as the Catalan Dragons ended a four-match losing streak with an 18-16 win at Toulouse.
On a rain-soaked evening at the Stade Ernest-Wallon, John Cartwright’s side turned the tables on their French rivals after a 60-18 thrashing at the Magic Weekend.
Makinson collected a high kick from Toby Sexton and used the wet conditions to skid over the line after Toulouse had taken an early lead from Jack Shorrocks’ penalty in the 14th minute.
Guillermo Aispuro-Bichette then weaved his way on the stroke of half-time before adding his second conversion to put the visitors 12-2 up.
In-form Toulouse had won their previous three matches this month.
Romeo Tropes hit back in the second period on 11 minutes when Benjamin Leguerre’s pass crossed wide on the left.
Makinson claimed his second with 13 minutes remaining after another fine assist from the impressive Sexton.
Shrocks’ second penalty of the game cut the deficit at the other end before Aispuro-Bichette’s late penalty put the home side within reach, before Toulouse’s Joe Cator converted a last-gasp try.
