Turkish midfielder Arda Guler has expressed his delight at working under Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, stressing that his fourth season at Real Madrid will see further development after his excellent performance last term.
Guler told Royal’s official media that it was “a great opportunity to work with a legend like Mourinho”, praising the Portuguese coach and his technical team’s clarity in explaining instructions, as well as their great honesty off the pitch.
Bounce back from World Cup disappointment
The 24-year-old Turkish international joined training at Valdebebas Sports City this week after taking time off after a disappointing World Cup campaign that saw Turkey exit the tournament at the group stage.
“I miss home. I’m very happy to start working to always be better on the pitch,” Guler added in fluent Spanish, noting that the pre-season has focused on the physical aspect as well as listening and learning Mourinho’s demands.
Unstoppable ambition
The Ankara-born midfielder will be hoping to continue playing a key role after his excellent form last season, where he was one of the few players to consistently perform well for the Merengue.
“I have learned and developed a lot, but my enthusiasm has never changed. I want to win everything, like I did on my first day, and make Real Madrid fans happy.”
