The Egyptian defender said goodbye to the stadiums after a busy career
Former Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi is taking a new step in Saudi Arabia’s Roshan League after retiring from football for good.
Today, Saturday, Ahmed Hegazi announced his permanent retirement from football at the age of 35.After his departure from NEOM at the end of the previous season.
He said Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat NEOM Club’s management is set to capitalize on Ahmed Hegazi’s experience outside the green rectangle by appointing him to the club’s administrative staff next season.
The newspaper did not reveal the nature of the position, but confirmed that the NEOM Club will announce it in the next few days as part of the restructuring process the Saudi club is currently undertaking, both at administrative and technical levels.
Hegazi finished his football career at NEOM Club, where he moved to their ranks in the summer of 2024 and helped them win the Yellow League’s First Division and promotion to the Roshen League, and he was part of it during the previous season before leaving at the end of it.
However, the most famous Egyptian defender’s journey was at Al-Ittihad, where he moved to the ranks in the summer of 2020 and won the Saudi League in 2023 as well as the Super Cup after a 14-year absence, before he left for NEOM in 2024.
Overall, Hegazi enjoyed a distinguished career in which he played for Egypt’s Al-Ismail and Al-Ahly, Italy’s Fiorentina and Perugia and England’s West Bromwich Albion, in addition to Saudi League sides Al-Ittihad and NEOM.
