The group offered its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Catalan police said the 54-year-old worker died from a blow to the head. No further details were provided when contacted by The Associated Press.

Barcelona began a major renovation of Camp Nou, the largest football stadium in Europe, in 2023. Players returned to the site in November, with limited space for fans, while construction continued.

The Catalan club have won the Spanish La Liga title for the past two years and begin their new campaign on August 23 in Elche.

Their first home game at Camp Nou, which was partially reopened last year for the project, will be against Athletic Bilbao on August 27.

The capacity of the land when completed will be 105,000, making it the largest in Europe.
