Police Reform UK will investigate a donation by Richard Tees’s company.

Fiona Cottrell’s son George Cottrell has been at the center of political controversy in recent weeks.

The Sunday Times reported that it would support Farage by paying for staff and security ahead of the 2024 election, but these benefits were not revealed until after Farage became an MP. Farage has resigned as an MP and is standing for re-election in the Clayton constituency.

Farage has repeatedly argued that any money given to him before he was elected came from an MP’s personal authority and therefore did not need to be declared. Cottrell’s lawyers said: “They categorically dispute the allegations and comments made by The Sunday Times, which the publisher failed to accurately reflect what was said before the report.”

Asked by the Sunday Times whether Cottrell, the solicitors at Carter’s Rack, had passed the money on to his mother before she passed on money to him, Carter Rack said: “Our client confirmed the instructions that his mother’s gift was entirely her own decision.

George Cottrell is a close political and personal ally of the Reform UK leader.

He pleaded guilty to fraud in the United States and spent eight months in prison before being released in 2017.

On his release he returned to England and now lives in Montenegro.

Speaking at a rally in Norfolk on Tuesday, Nigel Farage said he had absolutely no idea George Cottrell had given his mother money to donate to the party, saying: “What has it got to do with me how their families manage their money?

“If the money is legally hers and she made the contribution, I don’t see what the problem is,” he said.

Britain Means Business It was set up in August 2017 under the name Leave Means Leave to campaign for a “clean Brexit”.

The firm was founded by Tees and John Longworth, former head of the British Chamber of Commerce and prominent Brexit campaigner.

Longworth said leave would be in January 2020, the month the UK officially leaves the EU.

A few months later, Tees changed the company’s name to Britannia Business. He now solely owns and controls the business.
