“Neither Jermain nor his assistant attended that meeting or the training session that day.

“Jermain has never directly addressed any concerns to me throughout his tenure, so I don’t want to speculate on his motives.”

Defoe will retire in 2022 after scoring 305 goals in 763 senior appearances for West Ham, Tottenham, Portsmouth and Sunderland and scoring 20 times in 57 internationals.
