As the prowess of that great Kerry side began to wane towards the end of the decade, Mayo would find a new nemesis as, after defeat to Donegal in 2012, Dublin accounted for them in the 2013 decider, again in 2016 in a replay of what was essentially a drawn game that went down to two first-half own goals, when Dean Roe freed them to win their hearts. 2017 finals.

Will the ghosts of All-Ireland finals past continue to cement Mayo and Kerry’s place at the top, or will a 75-year streak finally end against a county that has handed them three of their 11 defeats since 1951?
Sunday will be a day to remember for one set of supporters, while the other will revisit that sense of devastation both know all too well on All-Ireland final day.
As for ‘curse’? Well, the last member of the Mayo 1951 panel, Dr Mick Loftus, died in 2023.
