Morgan Gibbs-White: Nottingham Forest midfielder hopeful available for Europa League

Pereira said Gibbs-White’s replacement was not concussion-related, so he is not subject to the strict protocol surrounding such head injuries.

That means his availability for Thursday depends solely on his facial cut healing in time.

Had Gibbs-White been judged to be condescending, he would likely have been dropped. Players must not return to activity for at least 24 hours before undergoing a 48-hour rest and six-phase “return to play” process.

Premier League teams are allowed one concussion substitution per match, which does not count towards their normal substitution limit. Chelsea Youngster Jesse used that system for Derry in Monday’s match.

The 18-year-old, who was making his debut, collided head-on with Forest’s Jack Abbott and was taken to hospital. Chelsea Said he was “conscious, talking and undergoing careful examination”.
