2025 Africa Cup of Nations: Date set to hear Senegal appeal after win overturned

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has set a hearing date on Senegal’s appeal against being stripped of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

After the Confederation of African Football (Caf), hosts Morocco were declared the winners of the tournament. Results reversed Senegal won the final 1-0 in January.

Senegal players walked off the field after Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty as the match remained goalless.

After a delay of around 17 minutes, the players returned and Brahim Diaz’s penalty was saved before Senegal’s Pape Gueye scored an extra-time winner.

Senegal filed their appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) on March 25, setting aside Caf’s decision to reinstate them as tournament winners.

CAF felt that Senegal lost the final and gave Morocco a 3-0 victory.

Caf and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) refused to speed up the process so a hearing will now take place on 8 October.

According to a Cas statement, it follows the standard timeline.

CAF and FRMF did not request that the hearing be made public so it will be held behind closed doors at Cass’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Cass could not say when the final decision would be announced but it would not be on the day of the hearing.
