Heatwave reveals lost archaeological sites across Wales

The National Archives of Historic Places of Wales released photographs of the driver’s findings following flights from Haverfordwest and Caernarfon Airport in June and July.

“It’s been very windy across Wales this year, so some long hauls have made for a challenging flight to record crop marks,” Driver said.

“Sometimes the crop marks are so obvious that they jump out when we go around to photograph the aircraft. But some parts of Wales are so dry now, the crop marks are very faint and difficult to see.”

He added: “In these cases, we digitally adjust the color bands of the image, literally making the archeology “pop” and revealing previously hidden details – these images appear as black and white.”
