Meta is upgrading its AI chatbot with new innovations to compete with players like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude. The The update will allow Meta AI to log into your calendar to help you plan events and create a daily overview, as well as to explore in depth what you can control as it goes.
It shows a change in the company’s strategy, as Meta CPO Chris Cox told employees last year that the goal is to “focus on fun” and “connect with friends,” rather than “focus on productivity” like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, as Alex Heath said.
Now, Meta says its AI chatbot can create a daily summary based on your calendar, or browse Facebook Market for used furniture that fits your kitchen remodeling budget. It can also search for restaurants for the event you are planning and check your calendar to choose a date that fits your schedule. In addition, Meta says that “you only need to set up tasks with Meta AI once, then you can leave Meta AI to handle them,” allowing it to provide you with calendar notifications without having to repeat them, create weekly meal plans, or provide updates on product sales.
The company says its AI assistant is also good at summarizing online information and putting it into a report, presentation, or plan. Now you can change the Meta AI method in the middle of its response, similar to what you can do with ChatGPT.
The updated Meta AI Assistant is available today in “select markets” in the Meta AI app and online. It will be available to users in many countries and on other platforms, such as WhatsApp, “in the coming weeks.”
