Countries around the world will soon respond round of tariffs established by the administration of the President of the United States Donald Trump.
Friday’s action came just a day after Washington implemented the new measures, targeting more than 80 countries with tariffs ranging from 10 percent to 12.5 percent on the economy.

The government justified the tax under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, arguing that the countries in question had failed to adequately restrict imported goods produced by forced laborers. Most of the countries that were involved are denying the matter.
Trump has aggressively pursued tariffs as one way to boost US manufacturing and deal with what he described as a trade deal. But he’s often run into serious obstacles, with his signing off on reimbursements that were eventually deemed unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.
The latest jobs were launched as another 10 percent global tariff reached its official deadline on Thursday night, prompting accusations that Trump is again abusing US law.
Here’s how allies and enemies alike responded:
Australia
Australia’s Trade Minister Don Farrell has rejected claims that Australia, a major exporter of beef, gold and copper, is using forced labour.
“We believe that of all the countries in the world, Australia takes the issue of slavery, modern slavery, seriously, and will continue to do so,” Farrell told reporters in Adelaide.
Australia will “continue to lobby the United States” to remove the tariffs.
new Zealand
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon called the new prices “very disappointing to see”.
“The US investigation did not provide enough evidence to support their claims about forced labor,” he wrote on social media.
United Kingdom
A British government spokesman said the latest tariffs “will not have a negative impact” on exports, despite being subject to new US policy.
Previous US/UK agreements exempted a number of factories from paying certain tariffs.
“We see a very compelling role in ensuring that the UK’s international businesses are not affected,” he said.
“The US has recognized the steps the UK is taking, which is why no further funding for the UK has been announced.”
Japan
Japan’s chief cabinet secretary, Minoru Kihara, denied the government’s claims.
“It is unfortunate that the tax has been imposed because Japan does not have a plan to stop importing forced goods, although Japanese companies and businesses are working in cooperation with international countries,” he said at a press conference on Friday.
However, he added that Japan has “guaranteed with the US” that these tariffs will not exceed the 15 percent set in the trade agreement between the countries last year.
European Union
The European Commission, the EU’s main body, responded to the tax announcement with cautious optimism.
It added that the new policy does not appear to depart from the previous trade agreement between the US and the EU.
“The EU clearly considers that this is in line with what the US has agreed to and the EU-US Joint Statement,” said the European Commission.
China
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized the new 12.5% tax and reiterated the country’s long-standing resistance to the global tax.
“Tariff wars and trade wars do not help any party,” ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press conference on Friday.
Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet again in September, following earlier talks in Beijing that led to a new trade deal in May.
India
India’s apparel and clothing retailers have reacted with interest to the new prices.
The top trade body noted that India was not included in the list of countries where certain exports, especially those made from US cotton, are exempt from tariffs.
“The merger creates a risk of diversion of textile and clothing imports away from India,” said Ashwin Chandran, Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry.
