Andy Burnham’s first week promises – how much will they add?

Cost: Downing Street says it will be funded at no extra cost to taxpayers.

Burnham has completed his first week as Prime Minister Working out of the new number 10 North, ExternalHeron House, in the center of Manchester, will be a “place to make Britain better”, he said.

They are expected to work from there every week, while Education Secretary Lucy Powell and Chancellor of the Duchy Louise Haig of Lancaster, who oversees the department as part of her role, will also work there permanently.

Up to 300 civil servants are expected to join the operation by the end of next year, but Downing Street has said it will not cost taxpayers any extra money.

A spokesman for Burnham said earlier this week: “The 10 North run will be covered by existing Cabinet Office budgets. There will be no additional cost to taxpayers.”
