The Israeli attack comes amid ongoing talks with Lebanese authorities to establish a peace plan between the two countries.

Israeli forces attacked the southern Lebanese town of al-Mansouri and shelled the nearby village of Majdal Zoun, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported, despite “ceasing” ongoing talks between the two countries.

An explosion in Majdal Zoun on Friday was heard more than 15 kilometers (nine miles) away from the city of Tyre, according to local reports.

Attacks and destruction have become a way of life in southern Lebanon, despite the United States-brokered framework that is supposed to end the fighting and introduce “peace”.

On Thursday, an Israeli strike on an ambulance in Nabatieh al-Fawqa injured two medics. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said the attack was a “violation of international and humanitarian law and norms”.

Israel has been controlling all the villages near the border, with the Israeli authorities publicly announcing the intention to remove Lebanese towns from existence to create “security zones”.

Israel has seized nearly a fifth of Lebanon and has killed more than 4,000 people since the start of the war on March 2, maintaining that its operations are aimed at preventing the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah from launching an offensive in northern Israel.

US President Donald Trump pledged to “support” Lebanon during a White House meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun earlier this week.

When asked if there was time for Israel to withdraw from the country, Trump said: “They are in the process of doing this, they are in the process of sending (to) other regions.”

Under the framework agreement signed in Washington on June 26, the Lebanese army must occupy the areas occupied by Israel in the south, as long as Hezbollah is disarmed.

Lebanese and Israeli officials have been meeting regularly to discuss the implementation of the agreement and the next round of negotiations scheduled for August 4 in Italy.

The agreement does not set a time limit for withdrawal. Instead, it describes two “Pilot Zones” where the Lebanese army will “gradually assume full responsibility for security”.
