Yellow heat health alerts are in place for central and southern England on Friday morning. Temperature forecast 30C (86F) in places.
The alerts, issued by the UK Health Protection Agency (UKHSA), cover the East and West Midlands, East of England, London, South East England and South West England, and are valid from 9:00am BST on Friday until 09:00am on Sunday.
The UKHSA warns that the heat will have a moderate impact on health and social care services and risk the lives of vulnerable people.
It comes as parts of the UK are set to see some much-needed rain this weekend – although the amount will be relatively light, particularly in the south.
It was a drought. It was officially announced Thursday for large parts of North and Central Wales.
The rest of Wales, along with central, southern and eastern England, is in the “prolonged dry weather” category – one level below drought.
