Microsoft responds to LG administrators placing McAfee ads on Windows


LG says it’s pulling McAfee pop-up ads from software its third-party clients secretly install on connected computers.

This program, LG Monitor App Installer, installs itself through Windows Update along with monitor updates. The LG Monitor App Installer then pushes ads for McAfee’s 30-day free trial, as well as other software, via pop-ups on affected machines, several users have reported.

This has been done attract negative attention soon, and complaints appear on Reddit and the following video from the YouTube channel Nexus games. In the video, editor-in-chief Steve Burke said the publication paid $1,200 for a LG UltraGear 3GX900A-B gaming review (the review price dropped to $600 two days later, Burke said) to test and compare the performance “several times” on “many” Windows 11 systems.
