OpenAI is launching ChatGPT Health for everyone in the US on Thursday, allowing more people to connect their medical records and health information to the chatbot. At the conference, Ashley Alexander, vice president of medical technology at OpenAI, said the company’s models “are able to think better than doctors.”
When asked to find out more about how OpenAI’s systems stack up against human doctors, OpenAI Health director Karan Singhal said he would be “disturbed” by claims that he was right, but “there have been studies that have been pointing in that direction,” like this one. one from Harvard and Stanford. Wednesday, a Florida pastor sued OpenAI for what ChatGPT said gave him “very dangerous medical conditions,” leading him to stop treatment for a pulmonary embolism.
The larger release of ChatGPT Health comes a few weeks after OpenAI installed the new GPT-5.6 Solwhich claims to be “the most powerful example of health.” ChatGPT Health will visit the latest industry trends.
With this update, OpenAI will now allow users to ask questions about their connected medical information in the main chat, rather than having them go to a dedicated ChatGPT Health tab. ChatGPT will ask for permission before using your health information to change the way it responds, adding that “all conversations are encrypted at rest and in transit,” while information related to Health “receives additional security.”
Users can also review and edit the types of health data they connect to ChatGPT, including past medical records, care team records, lab results, and medications. Currently, users can connect their data from health providers, along with services such as Apple Health, Weight Watchers, MyFitnessPal, and Function. OpenAI says that ChatGPT Health “supports, not replaces, professional care.” It’s rolling out to all registered ChatGPT users aged 18 and over on the web and iOS in the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro versions.
