But that could change this season.
“To be honest, I think we’re going to see a West Ham that the fans will be proud of, and that’s the main thing for me,” Codina said.
“It will be a recognizable West Ham – a team that can play football and that will try to keep the ball as much as possible.
“With Rita, you could see their main feature was defense, but I think this season we’re going to try to improve on the ball.”
Codina says he already feels at home, starting pre-season training this week, but it helps that he’s still living in London.
The centre-back moved to England in 2023 after nine years at Barcelona, where he progressed through the club’s academy and into the first team.
Now he wants to give back to the community and is already giving up his time to help West Ham’s foundation work with young children in East London.
“I’m enjoying life here. I love learning new cultures. There’s something special about London. I’m trying to enjoy it as much as possible,” said Codina.
“Football gives me this opportunity and I will try to use it as well as possible.
“I tell (the kids) it’s not just about winning. It’s not just about going to the WSL. It’s not just about playing for the national team. It’s all the other stuff.”
