On Tuesday, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released a report called “Science: A New Golden Age,” in which it describes how it viewed science, found it lacking, and believes that the Trump administration has an opportunity to fix things. It’s a little unexpected from an organization that has been around thinking about reducing disability costs search and try to help those who are chosen to do it liquidation they are awarded based on scientific ability.
The report presents itself as the spiritual successor of “Science, The Endless Side,” a policy document that outlined government-sponsored science after World War II New Golden Age (SNGA) says that, although the principles promoted by the originals are still important, the situation has changed so that we need a major reform in the way the government manages things.
The result is an odd mix. It ignores or ignores the many things that the authorities are doing to destroy scientific progress. Sometimes, it identifies issues that have already been discussed as problems among scientists. Elsewhere, it is a mixture of political complaints, ideas without a solid intellectual foundation, and the injection of Silicon Valley ideas on innovation (Michael Kratsios, head of OSTP, who used to work with Peter Thiel). As a result, it is impossible to have anything like “Science, Without Limits.”
