Google was fined $1 billion for violating EU antitrust laws

The European Union has fined Google’s parent company Alphabet €890 million (about $1 billion) for violating the bloc’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). One penalty is to offer its best products in search results, while the other is to prevent Android developers from sending users to other payment methods.

A fine of €460 million has been imposed on Google for providing special services for its shopping, hotels, and airlines on Google Search results. The second penalty of €430 million is for Play Store rules that prevent software developers from voluntarily directing consumers to other mobile software products.
