Spain coach Luis de la Fuente brought the world cup to AS newspaper headquarters today, Thursday, after he and El Matador won the world title just 4 days ago.
De la Fuente led Spain to the World Cup for the second time in its historyThe following Sunday evening, after beating Argentina (1-0) in a game that went into two extra periods.
The Spanish coach chose the newspaper”come onThis was his first visit to the media facility after winning the World Championship and entering the headquarters with the trophy. He laughed and said. “Some of my colleagues asked me for the next cup… It was tough, but tough times are not tough with hard work and enthusiasm.”
De la Fuente’s arrival turned the newspaper’s headquarters office into an arena of celebration, his booty attracting the attention of everyone as well as its wearer. Amid applause, greetings and photos, the coach of the Spanish national team spent a few minutes with the AS staff in a friendly atmosphere characterized by satisfaction with a job well done and pride in the great achievements of Spanish football.
De la Fuente added. “I try to be fair when I see malicious criticism. Life gives you opportunities later and that’s why I’m very happy for Ferran (Torres). His story reminds me of Morata’s story. In case of injustice, he said:
He continued. “The atmosphere was great, and that’s what happens when people are good. When Ferran scored the winning goal I was overjoyed and when I lifted the trophy I felt satisfied and proud. I am happy for my country.”
“I didn’t have to watch the final again, but the prevailing feeling was that we are much higher. Four years ago, during my last visit, I did not expect to reach this stage, but the road is moving step by step. And what we had, we would fight to win.”
When asked about the enthusiasm of the Argentine players, he said: “I completely understand why they wanted to go to penalties, especially after the sending off. We were clear about the need to play our style. This is the message I sent to the players. Let’s play our style because they are better than us in their style of play and we can’t let them win easily.”
