A police officer was a violent brat who assaulted women for more than 14 years.

Cousins ​​is a former Metropolitan Police officer serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of Sarah Everard.

He misused his role as a police officer to commit false arrests, resulting in serious investigative failures and numerous failed attempts to discover the dangers he had caused.

ACC Ratcliffe said the comparison was not relevant and that no red flags had been missed.

She said: “At this stage, we don’t have any evidence of (missed red flags) but we will continue to review it because one of the things we need to do in inquiries of this nature is to make sure we catch it and take the lessons we learn.”

The assistant chief constable said the vetting landscape at Police Scotland was “very different” to when Greer joined Strathclyde Police in 2009 and stressed that Greer would not pass vetting checks today.

There are still 1,000s of images recovered from Grayer’s devices that need to be analysed, and it is understood that he used a number of false names and phone numbers to carry out the sex transactions.

Specialists from other departments have been prepared to strengthen the anti-corruption team, and including from the main incident team, the investigation is expected to take several months.

Greer will never stand trial, but police say they are determined to get the full picture of the crime.

ACC Ratcliffe said: “If anyone believes they may have been a victim of Alan Greer, we would urge them to have the courage and confidence to come forward and tell us about it.”

“We can be sure that we will listen and investigate, and we will do our best to ensure that they get the support they need in the future.”
