Gerwyn Price booked his place in the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay with an 11-5 win over Rob Cross after Cameron Menzies was forced to withdraw due to illness at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
Menzies went dizzy on stage during the night’s opening match against Ross Smith, leading 2-1, and later passed out before returning to his accommodation after being checked by medical staff.

“I felt like I was struggling the whole game,” Price said Sky Sports.
“I just couldn’t find my scoring game. It was up and down.
“If I want to win this tournament I have to be a lot better than that but I’m going in the right direction.
“I need that energy, I need that buzz, and Ross (Smith) brings that.
“You’re going to see the old me. As long as they (the fans) accept it, it’s going to come back.”

Menzies withdrew and Smith went ahead. Scott was immediately taken off the stage after doubling over and appeared unsteady on his feet. He received medical attention and was cleared. However, he was too ill to continue.
In a statement released by the PDC, they said: “Cameron experienced high blood pressure, which caused him to feel dizzy and later faint.
“Following an assessment by the on-site medical team, Cameron was deemed well enough to return to his residence.”

Nijman then got the better of the battle as he began hitting the maximum with ease, taking four of the next five legs to level the contest at 5-5.

Sky Sports Darts’ Wayne Mardell said he expected a tight but impressive contest and, as a result, Nijmann would bring the game back before Van Veen took the lead as they both averaged around the 97 mark.
Nijman leveled the game again with a break throw and then took the lead for the first time since the first leg when he went 11-10 but of course, Van Veen didn’t back down and got an incredible 148 checkout under huge pressure to level at 11-11 and the opposition waited on 64.
The deciding moment came in the 25th leg when Van Veen broke Nijman’s throw and allowed himself to throw for the match. In D16, he took it and denied Nijman his first major quarterfinal spot.

James Wade hit this crucial checkout during his second round match against Ryan Searle at World Matchplay
In the final match of the night Wade reached the quarters for the 14th time in his 21st appearance in the competition with a tough 11-8 win over Ryan Searle.
Nothing could separate the pair in the opening exchanges, with every break of throw canceled out.
This saw the game finely poised at 5-5 and begging for someone to take control which Wade eventually did when he got a brilliant 121 checkout on the bullseye and backed it up with a throw to go 8-5 up.

Although Searle managed to pull away, Wade came through in the clutch again to finish on 143 against Darts.
Taking a 9-7 lead, ‘The Machine’ held on to his throws and booked his place in D12.
What’s happening in Thursday’s World Matchplay?
Quarter-final action begins on Thursday on World Matchplay, followed by Sky Sports Action and Main Event at 7.30pm.
In a replay of the 2025 semifinals at the Winter Garden, Luke Littler will battle Josh Rock for a place in the last four.
Gary Anderson will then take on Dirk van Duyvenbode in the semi-finals.
