When Sarwar jumps, the Scottish worker again at the crossroads

Anas Sarwar never hid his desire for high power.

It is only a matter of weeks before he puts himself forward to Scottish voters to replace John Swinney as First Minister.

That went horribly wrong. The SNP held power for a fifth consecutive term, while Labor recorded its worst Holyrood result since devolution.

While the performance of the UK government under Sir Keir Starmer has been largely to blame, there is now a live debate within the party about Sarwar’s strategy.

Scottish Labor campaign co-director Jackie Bally and Douglas Alexander are being asked questions.

Sarwar had said he would stand as a leader to steady the ship, but his hasty exit contradicted that stance and was a source of controversy for some.

Labor managed to defeat the SNP in Scotland two years ago in the English general election, but some saw Hodrid’s defeat as a reward.

Sarwar was the first senior Labor official to call for Starmer’s resignation, and some see it as a reward for betrayal – a move that unseated the then prime minister and ultimately benefited Andy Burnham.
