Clayface’s trailer leans toward a monstrous body

San Diego Comic-Con starts tomorrow, and DC Studios and Warner Brothers are preparing to drop the first full trailer. Clayfacepart of the DC Universe’s “Gods and Monsters” arc.

The movie started out as a project for Mike Flanagan (he’s the master of horror who brought us The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Massand Doctor Sleepamong other entertainments). Flanagan said he was inspired by the 1992 “Feat of Clay” episode Batman: The Movie Serieslonging to make a film that combines physical horror with tragic pleasure. DC Studios executives James Gunn and Peter Safran liked Flanagan’s voice and brought the film into their rebooted DCU.

Alas, Flanagan stepped down due to scheduling conflicts – he’s a busy man these days – and James Watkins stepped in as director. But Gunn has said that the final script retained Flanagan’s original story, with Hossein Amini also writing. The film will feature the origin story of the Matt Hagen incarnation of Clayface, who was introduced to the DCU in the animated series.
