Phil Salt faced a bowling storm from England fast bowler Jofra Archer as the Welsh Fire captain led his side to a six-wicket victory over the Southern Braves in The Hundred.
The win snapped the Fire’s eight-game losing streak against the Braves, with Salt dramatically leading the team.
Set a target of 135 for victory, the Fire needed 14 off 10 balls at the end of their innings and Salt showed his composure with the visiting Tribe.

Set a target of 135 runs to win, Fire’s Phil Salt failed to chase down the runs and secured victory by a six.
Salt, who scored an unbeaten 47 off 37 deliveries, showed himself on strike with just four runs to spare to win in three deliveries and sealed victory by blasting skipper Chris Jordan for a big six.
“The conditions were not easy. It was good for us to win the toss and chase the target, we knew what it was,” Salt told Sky Sports.
“We were electric in the field. There was some really good catching on display. We came off the ropes well today. Bowling-wise, we put the ball in the right place. Did we do it long enough? Were we smart enough? That’s one for the coaches.”

David Miller (44) and Thomas Ryu (41) scored individual highs for the Braves.
The Braves started slowly, with Sam Cook first snaring Jamie Smith for three, before Marco Jansen had Ben McKinney for four.
Thomas Rew (41) and David Miller (44) steadied the ship, before Jansen dismissed the former on 30 balls with his second of the match.
Archer was run out at the crease in the strangest of circumstances. Miller bowled a ball to Jansen at cover, and England’s seamer tried to rise for a single, but was sent back by his batting partner, circling around mid-wicket as the fire duo paid for their miscommunication.
Salt and Mathew Short came to the crease after the intermission, bringing the score to 20 before Short was caught out at extra cover by Dan Worrall.
Worrall returned to action to join Smith in dismissing England legend Joe Root for 15 runs.
After former England captain Joe Root was dismissed for 15, he was run out by Dan Worrall and Jamie Smith.
Rachin Ravindra came to the crease, and that’s where the fire started, he and Salt putting on a brilliant 49 off 27 balls.
“It’s great to play a part in a partnership,” Ravindra told Sky Sports. “Communication was the key between us. Salty played well there. The T20 wicket was not as open as we are used to seeing.
“He supported me a lot during that partnership, and it’s great to see the captain finally finish.
“We’re all used to seeing that free-flowing Phil Salt, aren’t we? The comments were mostly just to hit good cricket shots, trust our position, hit the gaps hard and run hard, and the boundaries will come.
“Salty is a special player but ball after ball showed his maturity and leadership to hold us accountable.”
