The final hurdle before the official announcement… Behind the scenes of Barcelona’s moves on the Cancelo deal

The Portuguese wants to continue at Barca

A press release today, Wednesday, revealed a new development regarding the future of Portugal’s Joao Cancelo, the Saudi Al Hilal player who was on loan at Barcelona last season.

Joao Cancelo was eliminated from Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup with Portugal, a week after his loan contract with Barcelona ended.

According to the newspaperMundo Deportivo:Cancelo (32) has gone on holiday and is still spending it on the Italian island of Sardinia, waiting for Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, with whom he has a contract until 2027, to terminate his permanent transfer deal with Barcelona.

The Portuguese full-back is completely calm, all he wants is to play in “Barcelona”.

The terms of his contract with the Blaugrana have been agreed, with only some tax details remaining before the official announcement of his joining.

Barcelona do not expect to complete all arrangements ahead of the first team’s training camp at England’s St George’s Park until later this month, so Cancelo is likely to start pre-season training… Al Hilal is led by Simone Inzaghi.

There’s still time as Barcelona’s opening league match takes place in Elche on Sunday 23 August.

Flick currently has Alejandro Balde from the first team and Joffrey Torrents from the reserves to fill in at left-back, along with Gerard Martin, a left-back, who has been established as a centre-back.

On Tuesday, 17-year-old left back Jordi Pesker joined them in training as Balde followed a separate training program.
